I like the simplicity of your site. One caveat - hire a pro to install a shopping cart. You'll be glad you did. I had the design done then wasted a lot of time trying to do it myself (and I'm pretty design literate).

Even with a great pro doing the tough stuff - it took 3 months plus to fine-tune everything. You can stop by and see how mine functions at the link below.

For me it was at the Muckenthaler Cultural Center in Fullerton. This is great for anyone who has their own art to sell and doesn’t want to pay a big booth fee. Their shows are the 2nd Sunday of every month now through October. I did very well there. Another good place would be The Blue Orchid flower shop in Orange. Their booth fee there is 45 dollars and their shows are the first Saturday of every month. I tried the swap meet, but didn’t do well. I'd love to hear where you sold and what kind of luck you had.

I agree that an online website is necessary to show that you are really in business to sell your jewelry. I've gotten lots of good comments about my website and my jewelry but I really haven't sold anything on my website or through Etsy yet.

The way to sell is through craft fairs and art shows where people can actually feel and see the jewelry. Perhaps in the future, as my customers give me repeat business, they will feel confident to purchase through my website. Until that time comes, I'm selling through the fairs and shows.

I also teach beading to seniors at our local county's senior centers and that helps to advertise my business, as well as to make a little extra money to pay for my "bead stash". I accept a maximum of 8 students for each two session class and I feel it's better to sell 8 sets of jewelry in this way through teaching than not selling the jewelry at all. Of course, teaching is hard work and requires good organizational skills. You learn as you teach your classes.

As far as your first website, start small and get something up there. As I have mentioned before, I use Doteasy.com for my server as well as purchasing my website names. I use Coffeecup Software for designing my website. They now have "Visual Site Designer" software that is supposed to make it easier to design a site. I usually "handcode" as that's the way I learned HTML a long time ago. I use PayPal for the purchasing part or the person can write an email and send me a cashier's check.

Well, I finally decided to bite the bullet and spend some time creating a website for my jewelry and painting hobby/business.

I followed a fellow-poster's recommendation and used doteasy for my domain and site hosting.

I think I have come up with a pretty professional site without having to learn html!

I use Webstorenow.com which is a hosting company with an integrated shopping cart. You might want to check and see if spoono has a shopping cart program but usually this costs extra. I pay $24.95 per month, which is a lot more than $8 but everything is included and easily works together. You could have it all up and running in a day. Good luck, hope it goes well!
