A Nap in a Butterfly-Filled Clearing in the Woods

I created this necklace with Czech glass beads purchased at Beads on Parade in Fredericksburg, VA. I used 22 gauge sterling wire for the hand wrapped links and sterling headpins for the dangles. The toggle clasp is sterling and features a flower, bringing together the feel of a butterfly-filled clearing.

This versatile necklace can be dressed up or down depending on your needs. 2 strands of linked copper chain drape from hammered oval links. Each strand is highlighted with flat stamped diamond shaped beads. The necklace is finished with a strand of copper belcher chain and a lobster clasp. These strands measure approx 51.5cm - 55cm.

A copper butterfly sits amongst green, copper wire wrapped beads

6 spiral wrapped green beads highlight the copper chain. The beads are a mixture of transparent and frosted glass in rounded, squared and flattened oval shapes. The main necklace is approx 68.5cm long but with the built in extension chain section can go to approx 75cm long. The butterfly pendant is approx 9cm long and supports 12 copper wire wrapped glass beads. The beads are a combination of sizes, shapes and finished and wrapped in several layers of wire giving a textured effect.

A lampworked bead is the inspiration of this design.

A lampworked bead is the inspiration of this design.

The central pendant is made of a transparent lampworked bead with flowers of pale blue petals and orange centres. This was the inspiration for the colours of this piece. The addition of the orange really make the blue and silver "pop". Both transparent and opaque blue beads and opaque orange beads are highlighted with silver washer spacers. Curved silver tubes support Czech pressed glass flower and leaf beads in various colours. The wire wrapped beads are wrapped in several layers of wire which give an extra texture to the design. The focal section of this necklace is joined to the clasp by a double row of deep blue opaque seedbeads and a silver bead cone. This designs shortest strand is approx 47.5cm while the longer one (not including the pendant) is approx 54cm. The pendant is approx 5cm long

2 large silver coloured starfish (approx 5.5cm) support 3 strands of beautiful sparkling 4mm Vitrial Czech Jablonex bicones which are interspersed with 6mm Swarovski Crystal bicones in assorted blues (from the deeper Montana Blue to pale Sapphire Blue). Black Neoprene is highlighted each end with a 4mm Vitrial bicone and finished with a silver plated lobster clasp and tag. The shortest strand measures approx 71cm and the longest approx 81.5cm

Larimar with iron matrixing is my favorite stone. It's fun to put it with copper and pearls. I do all my own wire wrapping and make the clasp and extender chains.
