    Lost Beaded Clothing Patterns

Around 22 years ago I had several patterns and instructions for making beaded Native American inspired clothing items, ie; bra, halter & fringed vest style tops, bikini, sarong, fringed skirt bottoms, belts, sandals, headdresses, etc.  All items were made using seed, bugle, crow or pony beads with leather sinew thread or leather lacing.  Everything always turned out incredibly beautiful!  Around 15 years ago all of my patterns were destroyed.

I have searched everywhere and have been unable to find anything even close to what I remember.  Everything now seems to be created using some type of fabric for a base then sewing beads onto the fabric.  The items I made years ago used only beads.

If there is a pattern & instructions out there even remotely close to what I have in mind I would appreciate the information or a poke in the right direction towards finding one.  I have attempted to design my own patterns over the years but nothing seems to turn out right!

    Re: Lost Beaded Clothing Patterns

From the sound of your description of the patterns, it sounds as if the beadwork/beadweaving created the "material" that became the garment. Kind of like knitting in the fact that you create the "material" in the shape that you need. Is this correct?

Only a couple pokes for you....
Try Ornament Magazine (ornamentmagazine.com) since your patterns sounds a good deal like "Artwear." With them though, you really need to be specific. The worst that they can say is no.

Also, try "thefind.com" and keep fine tuning your specs. Since you mention leather lacing, you might just find it under macramé. Beads & leather lace just might mean macramé to the classifier no matter what it really is in real life.

Did you find the patterns in a magazine? Hand-out at a store? Was it one of those pattern booklets that have only a few items/patterns on a subject? (Like a macramé booklet for creating 6 kinds of 2-tiered plant hangers....yes,I still have mine from the early seventies.) Any/all of these tacky details help.

I hope these pokes help. I'll keep an eye out for: (D) All of the Above

Please let me know if any of these leads help and any more tacky details to aid in the quest.

    Netta
