    Avatar

I am very computer illiterate, but  I just don't get it. I am having problems loading my avatar. Does anybody have any pointers?

Also, could someone please tell me what the little people by my name means?

Thanks everyone! As you  probably noticed, I finally got it to work. My picture was too big.

    Aloha Webbe!

I'm not sure, but you may need to have a fairly small sized pic for your avatar.  Mine is about 1" square, in a .jpg file.

As for the little people...OMG, what little people?!?  Naw, just kidding!  I think they indicate who the page is logged in under.  I only see them on my own posts when I'm logged in, and not on anyone else's.  They're harmless.  I think.  ~alohabc

It took mine a few minutes to work.  I'm not sure what the little people are....I had them before I put in the Avatar.  After you get the image file entered in the blank be sure to hit update then hit save.

I'm sure there are many bugs that will have to be flushed out of the new system.  We will all have to find patience.....I miss the smilies!!  :-(

    Re: Avatar

Aloha alohabc - I made it smaller and even croppped the picture to make it even smaller...still nothing.

Kathie - I've tried about 20 times waiting in between thinking it would refresh it's self. Of course, it didn't.I too miss the smiley faces.:D

It acts as if it won't accept my picture eventhough it's a jpeg. It's probably a bug...it took me over two hours just to reregister because it would not accept my old password. Also it took three hours just to get a temporary one. It took two days for the webmaster to return my email...I might wait until next week until the bugs have been worked out.

    Thanks~

    Re: Avatar

I was trying to use 100x100 avatars here.  Someone once told me that you use an avator any size and the resizing is automatic. oh well, I'll try to find some 90x90 avatars.

Thanks for the smileys but how do we apply them to here?

     Testing . . .

Tweety, if you go to the smiley Web site, click on the smiley that you want to use. A URL with image tags will appear at the bottom of the page. Copy everything that appears in the box and paste it into your message where you want your smiley to appear.

    I hope that helps!

    Re: Avatar

The easiest way is to resize an existing picture. Crop the image so there's not a lot of extra space around the image, and then resize it so the image itself is smaller. On another thread in the B&B forum, the online forum coordinator suggested making the images 100 x 100 pixels, which is an inch square. My Avatar is closer to 100 x 150 pixels because I wanted to keep the proportions. I made the narrower end 100 pixels, and let the software do the rest. I think the forum software may limit how big the picture is that gets inserted in the Avatar space.

You need to have software on your computer that allows you to alter images (unless someone knows of a site where you can do this*). I'm using Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo IX, which is similar to PhotoShop, but check what's on your computer. Rhonda

*Edited to add:  Someone posted this site on the B&B forum for resizing photos into Avatars, so you might want to try resizing your photo here:  http://www.shrinkpictures.com/create-avatar/
