    beads not laying flat

Does anyone else have a problem with flat oval or flat disc shaped gemstones not laying flat on the skin after being strung on beading wire?  I've made two necklaces now where the bead wants to turn sideways so you see the edge rather than the face of the bead.  Any clues as to what I might be doing wrong?

    Thanks,

    Hi beading buddy!

I think one possibility is that you're stringing the beads too tight. While you crimp the necklace, try putting the clasp together so that the necklace is in a circle or oval (like it will be when it's worn). That way you will have a little bit of slack built into the necklace. If there is enough space on the wire, I would think that it would be most natural for the beads to lie flat.

I hope this helps! Does anyone else have a suggestion?

I had this same problem with a few necklaces I made with flat rectangular stones.  My only suggestion is to make it a choker style, and then maybe it'll be flat?  I'm not sure...I wear the one that seems to twist a bit often, and it doesn't bother me.

The on;y other thing I can think is maybe using a heavy pendant, and then maybe the other stones will fall into line on the sides?

Thanks Lindsay and Audrey,  I'll try loosening up the beads.  After putting on the crimp covers it did seem to tighten up a little more than I like.  It also has a pendant so I'll add a couple of beads to the chain of the pendant to make it a little heavier.  Great suggestions.
