    Need some help understanding

Hi everyone. I am a stay at home mom and I have been thinking about selling my jewelry online for a little extra income. I have been doing some research but have found some conflicting information from different state and local sites concerning what licenses and paperwork I need. Can anyone help me out and tell me do I need to get a business license, do I have to register my business, do I need a sellers permit or anything else?  I'm pretty clueless here about the business part but I'm trying to learn so any information would be greatly appreciated. I live in Indiana if that helps with info needed.

Try talking to the nearest office of The Small Business Administration in your state. Things vary a little from state to state.  If they can't answer your questions, they will know where to direct you. I think you would definitely qualify as a small business. You may be able to sell some of your work as "hobby income"  but this does require some research with the IRS to see if you qualify.  I used to have a one person upholstery shop, and I had a business license. It was nice. I was able to purchase wholesale, I was tax free, it had benefits.  I didn't make much. I aimed to make enough to buy all the groceries every month. I had a baby and a toddler. Shop was 1/4 of the total floor space we heated, so I got to deduct part of utilities as business expense.  It requires good record keeping.  But it is a nice way to start.  Find out how much you can do without a license. Good Luck

Thank you. I've looked at the local website but I think I need to call or go down and talk with someone to help explain it further. Thanks for the advice.
