 This won't be much help, but I heard that there was a nice shop in the Old Town district, not in the tourist area.  I was in Puerto Vallarta two years ago and hoped to get over to see the bead shop, but unfortunately, we just didn't have time.  If you will be staying in a hotel, you could ask about the shop at the desk and get directions.  Let me know if you do find it and whether you like it!
