BeadStyle magazine indexes?

I have a few years of BeadStyle piling up. I realized the other day that I have no easy way to find articles for specific techniques I'd like to learn. The way I search now is go to beadstylemag.com and type in an interested item like "knotting" and then look at what comes up. If I have this article in my pile, then I can look it up. But is there an yearly magazine index? I do see that Bead and Button has an yearly index.

Crimping 101

Would one of you beading pro's please relay the correct usage of crimping pliers. I have one set of instruction advising to use the little crescent shape nearest the handle first and then the other rounder shape near the plier tip and I have a magazine article instructing the exact opposite. I have tried both ways and my crimp tube is just rough and squashy looking! I asked for help at Michaels Craft Store but could not get a demo, just reference to package instruction. Is this crimping thing only perfected with lots of practice? I have damaged two necklaces already, breaking the beads nearest the crimping tube and would really appreciate any seasoned advice.

Please Help!

Hallo,

I often use the saved passwords of my Firefox browser to see and sometimes erase the passwords...only everytime I must go to Tools - Options - Safety - saved password.
I was arguing if there is a way to insert a link in the toolbar to simplify and speed up this task.

Need help making a triple strand illusion necklace

Hi,

I am trying to make a triple strand illusion necklace on extreme 925 softflex wire. The problem I am having is that when I attach the wires to a connector the wires do not hang properly with enough spacing between each strand. I have allowed 1" difference between each strand. First strand is 14.5" long, second one is 15.5" long and the last one is 16.5" long. When I put the necklace on all the wires seem to overlap and cross and do not hang nicely. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to make each wire 2" longer?

New to the forum/community

My name is Heidi. I live in Nome, Alaska. I started beading 3 1/2 yrs ago.

I have beading fever in the biggest way - I just love it. I recently learned how to make

dichroic beads. I have learned how to make glass beads. But in both of these I am still

a green novice, but I love it all, nonetheless. I am blessed, in that I am getting an addition

add-on to my existing art room. I will be putting a work bench in, then a small kiln for

the glass annealing, and firing the dichroic pieces. I want to have small bead classes

in the addition too. I have wanted to make jewelry since I was a kid and am

fortunate to follow my only true passion - the world of ART.

I am also a watercolor painter, and between my painting

and beading supplies, I ran out of room. I bought a business license since I have been

selling my paintings and jewelry. I get actual exercise when my miniature schnauzers take

me for a walk - every day, depending on weather. Right now it's snowing in Nome. BUT

it is a snow/rain mix so no white stuff sticking to the ground (much).

There are no bead stores in Nome (pop. 3,500). You can only get

to Nome by airline jet. So I go to bead stores each time

I take a trip outside of Nome. When I am home, my only option is to buy via

the internet. I always buy beads, findings, etc. in bulk since I don't have a

store to go to locally. I buy beading magazines when I can get my

hands on them, otherwise I order a subscription.

My questions: Does most everyone usually get more than they need,

or find a pattern or think of a pattern they want to do, and

then go shopping for what they need, only for the project?

For other people who live in very small and/or isolated communities,

how do you buy your beads/supplies - especially if you don't have access

to the internet.

Do your programmers have any suggestions for users to change local settings or is it a problem at Kalmbach's end?

The problem of the main portions of the screen coming up blank been much worse during the last week of December for me using the latest version of Firefox. The banner and the frame with right hand side ads loads but the page content is blank. It happens something like 1/3 to 1/2 of the time in all 3 forums. I had to press refresh 3 times to get the reply screen to load yesterday.

Apparently the problem of having to refresh every time you select a thread or hit reply has gone away for some members but not for me. It still gets me in all 3 forums, with the latest version of Firefox on 4 different computers with a T1 at work, DSL at home and with wireless and T1 networks in hotels. It eats up 1/3 to 1/2 of the time I spend on the forum, cutting into my willingness to scan all the sections.

If it is a local setting I'd love to understand which setting I can change to reduce the problem. If it is the Community Server forum software it's a serious bug. If they can't fix it maybe Kalmbach should negotiate a refund.

Last month I tried working in the forums with Internet Explorer 6.026 on a T1 connection.

I did NOT have to refresh pages but I did get some very long pauses with just a blue background, then another long pause in a reply while it DL'd the buttons and graphics each time. The forum seemed much slower with IE than with Firefox... but maybe the same time if I counted the time needed to refresh? The T1 at work should be faster than the DSL at home.

The problem of having to log into each forum is another annoying "feature" that continues. Since I access the forums from several computers with different connections it may be a cookie issue. In my case the upper right hand message says Welcome Russ Nobbs so the system recognizes me. However, I have to log out and log in again to post or see "my discussions," This happens when I move from one forum to another and when come direct to a forum. It's very inconsistent. I DO have cookies enabled.

I hope all this information will give some hints to the Kalmbach on line techs. It's an issue that is hurting your forum members and, in the long run, your revenue stream from ads on your sites.

Manage Photos option

OK. So I have been off and on the new forum since its debute and just today I was looking at the section by "My Profile" and there is a link to: Manage Photos.

What does this do? When I click on it it goes to a blank page called: Manage Photos

Any clues?
