Has anyone been using the Beadalon scrimps for a while? How have the necklaces been holding up with these scrimps? Do you add a little glue to the screw for reinforcement? They seem like a good idea. In teaching classes, I find the hardest area for the students to learn is to use enough force when making the folded crimps. Most of my students are older and don't have as much strength as they used to so scrimps would be a good alternative for them.

I tried them out, but went back to the old flatten yourself type after having 2 necklaces come apart, even with adding glue. The screws seem to work themselves loose after wear. Thats just my experience with them though.

I love scrimps!  So far, none of my bracelets or necklaces have come undone.  I find them much more secure that ordinary crimps.

I used to use the scrimps, but a couple of the screws came loose and I did not like the "industrial" look.  So now the only crimps I use are the twisted tornado crimps and will never use any other crimp tubes.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll continue to use the foldover crimp tubes as this is the kind that is available locally for my students. Maybe I will try a thicker wire - 19 strand. Perhaps the thicker wire is better to use with the foldover crimps and still thin enough to use with most beads.

I bought my first scrimps 2 weeks ago. I am using them on both necklaces and bracelets. I like (prefer) heavy stone beads and am trying out the scrimps to see if they prove more secure for me.  So far so good.  I have been a comfirmed crimp user for several years, but recently I have had difficulty with crimps that break after the crimp/fold process. Maybe it is just me and my grip.   I will have to give the scrimps more time. And I have not yet tried the glue in the screw trick yet.  Thanks for the tip.

My class and I had so much trouble with the foldover crimps last Thursday that I've finally given up on them. I have been using the same crimping pliers since last fall 2007. I'm wondering for how long they work well as I didn't have any trouble making foldover crimps when we first starting using these pliers. The 2x2 reinforced sterling silver crimp tubes were from Artbeads.

I'm going to start using the twisted crimps from Artbeads for the classes and sell the twisted crimps to my students and that should take care of the problem.

I will try the scrimps to see how they hold up.   

I use the scrimps and I love them.  I have not used the glue yet.  I tried using the crimps and the jeverly kept breaking.  I noticed there are different size crimping pliers depending upon the size crimp beads/tubes you use.
