    A good JIG

Does anyone use a JIG for wire jewelry?  I heard about WIG-JIG and THING-A-Ma-Jig(Beadalon)?  Also, which wire is best to use... 20 gauge or less? Where is a good place to order them on the net?       Merci!

    Aloha perles!

Gauge of wire and type of jig really depends on what you want to make.  After studying the www.wigjig.com site, I picked a WigJig Dephi to make findings, like hooks and earwires.  I probably would have bought the Centaur, if I had more money.  Instead, I also got the Super Pegs which come in handy for large rings, "S" hooks and hoop earrings.  I purchased my jig and accessories from the SoftFlex booth at a bead show.

Couple tips:  Use a file to round off the corners and edges of the jig, and a fine tip permanent felt pen to mark inches or centimeters on the side of the jig.  An easy way to make your pieces consistent.

     Hope this helps!  ~alohabc

I posted a similar question on the Art Jewelry forum.  The consensus is wig jig...The one I bought - "Wire Works"  had a site on the package that sent me to the wigjig.com site.  There is a lot of information on that site.  Also check the Bead and Button forum.  They all have info on wire jigs as well.

I did try it out, for fun and laughs (cuz I did really laugh at my attempts).  I would go with a 22 g to start.  I used a smaller wire and it was just a mess no matter what I did.  The 22g worked good for me.  And this all happened yesterday.  LOL  Today I tried my hand a free forming the wire.  Once I get a bit better I will post a picture of what I come up with.  Just for laughs....It is pretty funny (and kinda sad too) but I will keep trying until I get it.

Let me know how you do.
