    Could I get some feedback?

Everybody who posts here is SO talented!!!   Can anybody give me some feedback on my Etsy site?  I basically have 3 types of photos; the first type I took when I opened the shop which were in doors (candle pics), then I tried outdoors in natural light which I think are cute but then I made a light box last week and those are the ones you see with the lady with the pierced ear and the white background with words.

I am wondering if you think I should leave all the different types of photos or make it "neater" and take the same types of pics of all my pieces.

     Thanks!!!

     Neillee-

Since your by line says"Vintage inspired", I like the picture with the lady(Gen Harlo?). I also like the pictures you took with poems under neath them for the same reason.

I would take the same type of picture, but not necessarily the exact same.

If you use the pictures, you may want to scan the original and then put them on card stock for use in your light box.

I like your work but you should consider doing all your photos outside. The first ones that are listed in your shop have a terrible white balance issue. Using a program like photoshop is a must. 99.9% of people can not shot a picture and not have to edit it in some way. I think outdoor images are the way to go with your work. My favorite one is of the hanging earrings with the blurry outside background.

    Hi,

I have to agree with Matt, take your photo's outside. Not in the sun, in the shade, but the natural light lends itself much better for a cleaner crisper image. Not that your photography is bad....but outside just might help a bit! As for your jewelry...awesome, totally. I love it!!!!! How is Etsy working for you?

I really like the wones taken outside.  When visiting your site I did notice that there were quite a few photos that had bottoms or tops and sides of your jewelry which were cut off.  This is probably the cropping which the etsy site does, but it takes away from your nice photos.  You might have to go back and check out your photos once you post them to make sure your jewelry is somewhate centered.

     Nice work though.  Well done.

As a former ebay seller I would suggest that you use a very simple plain back ground.  You may need to take several shots of your pieces at different angles, with & with out flash to see what shows your work best.  You want people to focus on your work so you don't want to distract them with words, candles & such.  The necklaces on the black forms are great as they show how lovely they drape.

Hi, Thanks for sharing your work.

I have struggled with images of my work and eventually had to get a better camera good enough for close ups, which is not your problem.  After that I discovered that my shiny beads did not photo well on black, I had to go back at times and paint out the speckles, or if I wanted images on black, to use Photoshop to paint it in.  The images tended to be siloettes (sp) with little detail of my work.  In the end, I found that it was best to use natural light, found sheets of mid grey paper to photo my jewelry on.... and that Photoshop, even an old copy, could reduce the size of my images to a web managable size and retain the detail.

There was also a great article in Bead and Button Magazine, June 2007, issue 79,  page 24, that demonstrates the professional lighting setup with difussion screens for floodlights.

Take different pictures of each pieces, and it will not so dull.

Using an Ott light seems to be the best way to get great, natural light indoors. I suggest getting the highest wattage bulb straight from the website: http://www.ott-lite.com/p-186-25-watt-hd-compact-fluorescent-bulb.aspx This bulb screws straight into any lamp fixture you might have. I find it works best with those little desk lamps with a flexible arm so that you can move the light to shine directly over the piece you are trying to photograph. I just bought one and I am going to have to rephotograph everything for my etsy store, too! Hope this tip helps.... I've sat in on a lot of forums on Etsy and they all rave about these Ott lights for optimal lighting potential when photographing jewelry. Good luck! Joanne www.chmiss01.etsy.com

Your photographs are too dark!  It's hard to see them.  Some of the pictures have the top and/or bottom cut off so that you can't see what the necklace looks like.  Is the bust that you use lifesize, when the photograph shows the necklace hanging mid-cleavage is that where they will actually hang or are they shorter?  It's hard to tell.   I think I would try using the Ott Light with a photobox - you can make or buy a tabletop studio/lightbox that will help you control your lighting.  Your jewelry looks very nice, just wish I could have seen it better.  Here are a couple of websites that you might find helpful.  Good Luck!
