I wouldn't feel comfortable buying a refurbished Rolex, though!

I am not sure there is any gold in these beads, even though they are marked so, from what I understand these beads are made with copper and brass based alloys. Maybe R&T/Russ can verify the contents!

What I know about the beads in the second photo are that they are islamic rosary beads.....often sold in strands 28-30" inches and contain about 66 beads and one long Imamee bead.

Another thing is that I've usually seen only glass beads from the african continent (made locally or imported from the czech) refered to as Trade beads and am not sure that metal beads fall under the same category!

re: Trade beads

I don't think the Ethiopian beads pictured above contain any gold...mainly only copper and brass

alloys. I believe the beads may have been incorrectly tagged as gold and copper, R&T/Russ will be able to clarify the actual contents. Secondly I think the term trade beads usually only refer to glass beads...I'm not sure if metal beads also fall into the category.

The large copper beads in the second picture come in strands 28-30 inches long. These beads are islamic rosaries and contain 66 beads and one long bead called the imame.

Interest in the genre spiked with the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movies and continues with the release of more vampire flicks. It's the Renaissance-Faire-meets-Memento-Mori style; go to any craft event and you will find it in abundance.

When you say 'vintage' do you mean actual antique items? Times must be really tough if people are selling off their heirloom jewelry in lots to high-end fashion houses. Or are these new pieces, created from designs of yesteryear?

Also, in the parlance of purveyors of old stuff, note that the term 'vintage' is currently used to describe anything from the 1950s and older. It might mean a Victorian pendant -- or a Roy Rogers wristwatch!!

A question...are these truly one-of-a-kind? How does that work and is there confirmation that these are vintage,ie. makers marks and stamps for the metals?
