Calling all Etsy sellers: Got fun findings?

BeadStyle will be running a new column starting in our July issue, and we're looking for fun and interesting findings!

Do you sell handmade chain, textured jump rings, decorative head pins, extraordinary clasps, or any other unique supplies? Here's your chance to show them off!

Send a few samples to:

BeadStyle

If you have any questions, feel free to email editorATbeadstylemagDOTcom. You can also send a digital photo if you prefer — high res only, please.

Remember to include descriptions, a price list, and your contact information. Also, please don't send finished jewelry; we're looking for components. We'll consider submissions as they come in, but for the July issue, the deadline is March 15, 2010.

We're excited about seeing cool stuff and sharing it with readers. Thanks for your help!

I tried Etsy twice and still no sales.  I know I have nice products and I have not been able to sell on Ebay or Etsy.  I think they are both too crowded.

Both places are very crowded. I think it's challenging to distinguish yourself with your work itself and in terms of how you're listing things. Are you selling finished jewelry or components?

I sell on ETSY and I love it, though do wish I had more sales (doesn't everyone!)

Still for me it is an excellent place, flexible & friendly people.

As with any Globally based shop you will have to be in it for the long haul. As with any business establishing yourself takes a very long time (3-5 years for regular storefront shops) Vs. the world wide web being even longer.

Make connections, forum, blog, ect... keep active & get noticed! Find a niche - & most of all PATIENCE!

I sold jewelry at craft fairs and boutiques (and not so much online), but that's a good point about patience and persistence. While it's true that good marketing distinguishes you from other sellers, I think it also takes people some time to "discover" your work.

I've been on Etsy for almost a year and have sold 4 designs. Yep...4. I know it takes time..and money and I'm trying to be patient. Think I'll stick it out, since it cost only a few dollars a month.  I've done the art fair thing...to supplement.  Unless you have a following, Etsy is a challenging place for us jewelry designers.
