Bead and read (or watch or listen)

Normal 0 0 1 122 698 5 1 857 11.1282 0 0 0

Tonight, I’m making myself a necklace and earrings to go with a new dress I bought for a wedding I’m going to this weekend. I’m also listening to “The Lost Symbol” by Dan Brown.

Other recent bead/reads:

Duma Key by Stephen King

The Plague of Doves by Louise Erdrich

Getting Things Done by David Allen

The Nine by Jeffrey Toobin

The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz

Next in line: Julie and Julia by Julie Powell

Of course it’s not only books that fuel my creativity, I’ve been known to watch many an episode of “Murder She Wrote” and “Law and Order.” Since I’ve seen every episode, I can listen to them more than watch them.

I’ve also been known to create my masterpieces listening to my favorite show tunes.

What gets your creativity going?

Welcome to the audiobook-beading community.  I love to listen while I work. If I tried to watch...I'd have to put on my glasses to watch and remove them to bead...so audio books are best for me. I love anything by Elizabeth Peters, Anne Perry,  The Cat Who books by Lillian Jackson Braun, and many more. If I qualify for a drawing, I'd love the new Dan Brown. Thanks,

I have recently started to listen to audio books while I create my jewelry, too!  For me, it's less distracting than watching TV while I work on my projects, so I can get more work done.  Right now, I'm listening to People Of The Book, by Geraldine Brooks.  I have also enjoyed listening to,  The Shiksa Syndrome, by Laurie Graff, and True Believer, by Nicholas Sparks.  I'm also wanting to try listening to music , and see if I enjoy doing that while I work.

I recently read the book "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein.  It was a wonderful book.  I would highly recommend it.

I listen to the JD Robb, Evanvich, Grafton, Cromwell books and own all the Dan Brown books except for the new one.  Now that I am unemployed I have to rely on the library.  I am now 66th in line to get that one. LOL.  I started out with The Firm.  I drive to VA and IN by myself and books on CD are the only way I make it.

    Hi Cathryn,

I also love to read but my new found love is beading.  I have been beading for only 2 years and I have put my reading on the back burner because I have to bead everyday.  I also am making jewelry for my sister in-law.  My nephew is getting married this month and she wanted her jewelry to match her dress.  I still buy my books with good intension to read them, but with beading until 4 am I have not had the chance.  I even take my beads with me on vacation.   I have about 10 audio books and I love them.  I can get more things done and yet, it is not as good as reading myself but I can at least still get in a few good books.  I am good at multi-tasking and can watch ( or listen ) to the tv and bead at the same time.

My favorite author is Jackie Collins.  She has a couple of series but my favorite is the Lucky Santangelo series.  The first book is Chances followed by Lucky. NBC made a 6 hour mini series out of these two books.  The third book of the series is Lady Boss which was also a 4 hour mini series. Then came Vendetta followed by Dangerous Kiss.  Jackie Collins has sold over 400 million copies world wide and has a new book in the series coming out.  Her new book is about Lucky's son will be released in Feburary 2010.  I can't wait, when I read her books I have a very hard time putting them down.  I have been looking into joining a audio book club, but I am still researching all my options.

Good luck at your book signing and have a safe trip.

    Doreen

I have been listening to books on tape for years, but mostly commuting to work and on road trips.  The last few months, though, I have found that listening while beading helps my creativity because I'm focusing on the book instead of thinking of all the chores/work/etc. I should be doing, and I don't have to try to watch what's going on like I would with the television on.

Some of my favorites have been the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich, the Harry Potter books and my latest favorites are all of Harlan Coben books.  The Day I Ate Whatever I Wanted by Elizabeth Berg will have you laughing and crying.

I have listened to all the Harry Potter books at least eight times and most recently enjoyed Stephen Colbert reading his book, "I am America (and so can you!)". I had the new Dan Brown audio book checked out from the library, but sadly, I had no time to listen to it. Right now I have Thomas Hardy's "The Return of the Native", read by Alan Rickman ready in my iPod for my next beading project.

For many years I have listened to audiobooks, first on tape and later on CD.  My favorite authors are females from Ann Tyler to Joyce Carol Oates.  I recently finished "The Falls" and Oates did a thorough job on that novel.  While I drive I listen to my iPod via the radio where I have many audiobooks collected from the BBC's  Book at Bedtime and Book of the Week. If you like to read, you will enjoy BBC's World Book Club with interviews of authors world wide.  I have become familiar with many international authors through that venue. Listening to books while beading combines two of my favorite things.

I love to read and this is a great way to accomplish two things at once.  One of my most favorite authors is Patricia Cornwell.

I started listening to books with my daughters in the car.  We listened to all the Harry Potter books that way. I now listen to mainly mysteries. My favorites are Cat Who books by Lillian Jackson Brawn, Janet Evanich,  and Sue Grafton.

i love listening to books while I bead. I get lost in the book and before I know it my project is done.

As far as narrators go, George Guidall has a wonderful voice and he does the cat who books and others.

Cathy, how did you like "The Lost Symbol"? I have that on my list to listen to next. By the way, who won the audiobook?
