The Office and Bones? Whatever, Girlfriends.
Joking. I just wanted to weigh in on the jewelry-on-TV topic that Stacy, Cathy, and Jane wrote about last week.
I'm bummed that Girlfriends got canceled — it was one of the first TV shows that featured over-the-top accessories that weren't necklaces. Week after week, Joan, Maya, Lynn, and Toni (and later, Monica) wore amazing earrings. You can visit the show's IMDB link for a photo gallery, though I don't think it really does justice to the range of styles or how the jewelry helped create different characters. A fashion blogger put together a few images of the show's main character, played by Tracee Ellis Ross (love how she accessorizes without a necklace).
When asked about key accessories, the show's costume designer, Stacy Beverly, named hoops and chandelier earrings. How can you not buy into the transformative power of earrings?
By the way, if you visit the Dominique Cohen site and click on the "dc style" link, you can view different montages of people wearing the DC pieces (though, I've never known anyone who puts on a ring with the help of a mirror).
What's your take on the necklace vs. earrings question: if you could only choose one, what would it be?
