Beads on TV…and DVD

Since I started beading, I’m much more apt to notice the jewelry worn by characters on TV shows. It appears I am not alone when it comes to Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan and Angela Montenegro on the TV drama Bones. A number of jewelry bloggers have noted these characters’ elaborate pendants, twisted gemstone strands, and delicate chains. To see for yourself, check out this photo gallery with no less than 112 shots of fabulous Bones jewelry.

Here’s another TV jewelry find…I recently watched the first (and only) season of Wonderfalls on DVD. The show follows Jaye Tyler, who finds that inanimate animals (think puppets, lawn ornaments, and t-shirt decals) can talk to her, making bizarre requests that always result in Jaye unwittingly helping someone in need. Beyond the original story line and superb acting, the main characters wear some simple but very fun and hip jewelry. My favorite is this lariat and this necklace (lower righthand corner).

What are your favorite jewelry-spotting TV shows (or movies)?

And here I thought I was the only one secretly coveting those unique pieces I saw on Bones.

I watch TV news programs a lot.  It's always fun to see what female anchors are wearing.  They know we can only see their upper body, almost all of them wear necklace and earrings.

Wow that's a fantastic find! Thank you.

I love watching period dramas for the way they adorn the leading ladies, Pride and Prejudice being a particular favourite (BBC 1995 version) with simple, modest chains for the Miss Bennets, and larger showier pieces for the likes of the haughty Caroline Bingley and her sister.

It's not like I need an excuse to re-watch these mood-enhancing DVDs but when I do, I have the perfect ready-made excuse- It's research!

Thanks again for your post, it may even inspire to make my own one of P&P!

As Teresa pointed out, the BBC productions of Jane Austen's novels are a great source of inspiration. In my corner of the U.S., PBS just finished showing those productions on Sunday nights. I liked the simplicity of the jewelry, and I noticed that the lead characters were almost never without a necklace no matter how plainly they were dressed. A lesson for us all?

I too have noticed the beautiful pieces worn by Temperance and Angela on Bones and would love to make some of those pieces.  I also notice the jewelry worn by reporters on CNN and  reporters on the local news stations.
