The Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts is holding its first 2008
exhibition, “Needle Felting: Quilts, Art Objects & Wearables.” The exhibit
will run through April 6th, 2008, and features needle-felted quilts in
addition to doll, animal, and vessel sculptures, as well as clothing, hats,
purses, and jewelry (!).
Artists exhibited include; Chris Hanner, Snellville, Ga., Katie Wild, Ripon,
Wis., Susan McFarland, Columbus, Wis., Jane Lange, Slinger, Wis., Mary
Flanagan, Picket, Wis., Elizabeth Dary, Kenosha, Wis., Barbara Kile,
Houston, Tex., Tricia Anderson and Margie Posbrig, Milwaukee.
During the show, a variety of items handmade by these and other fiber artists will
be for sale, including needle-felted art objects, hats, mittens, and
handbags.
Located on an 1870s farmstead, the museum buildings include the original
stone farmhouse, a milk-house, blacksmith shop/summer kitchen/smoke house,
lambing shed, and dairy barn. The mission of the Quilt History Project,
Inc., is to educate the public about the artistic, cultural, historic and
social importance of quilts and fiber arts and to seek to preserve the
historic structures of the farmstead.
The exhibition is open to the public Wednesday – Saturday, from 11:00 am -
3:00 pm and Sunday from 1:00 - 4:00 pm. For more information visit the museum Web site or call
