Book review: Seed Bead Stitching

We get a lot of great beading books in our office. We never have the space
in the magazine to talk about all of them, so we're going to blog about them
every so often. These "reviews" are never going to trash any books. If we
didn't like them, we just won't talk about them. Kalmbach Publishing Co.,
the publisher of BeadStyle, also publishes some great beading books. We'll
be looking at those, but of course, we'll look at books from any and all
publishers.

But, since it hit my desk recently, I'm starting with a Kalmbach book, "Seed
Bead Stitching"
by Beth Stone. It focuses on creative variations on
traditional techniques.

I used to do a bit of stitching before I started at BeadStyle, but I haven't
had time since I started the job. This book has intrigued me enough to try
to carve out some time to reintroduce myself to stitching.

I particularly love the projects that incorporate briolettes. There's a
diagonal right-angle weave project with drop beads that I might start with.

While I would never suggest anybody stop stringing, it's always healthy and
fun to give new things a try. The illustrated step-by-step instructions in
Seed Bead Stitching might be a good entry point for anyone who has thought of giving stitching a try.
