Presents

I'm sure I'm not the only beader out there who is getting ready to make Christmas presents. All right, most beaders are probably more organized than I am and have already completed their presents. Either way, I bet that most of you can associate with the pride of giving handmade gifts. It's different than giving something store bought, isn't it? Both you and the person receiving your jewelry know that you put thought and time into the gift. And, it's something that is one of a kind.

Giving unique, handmade gifts is one of my favorite things about beading, especially at this time of year. Right now I'm anxiously awaiting an order of jewelry supplies in the mail, going over the designs in my head so that I'll be ready to make the jewelry once the components arrive. How are you holding up in the holiday madness? Are you better prepared than I am? Or are you, too, scrambling to keep up?

I was in the same boat this week.  My order came on Tuesday and I have been frantically trying to get gifts made.  Some of the components I needed did not come in.  They were available when I ordered them, but by the time the order went through and was shipped they were sold out.  I have marked on my calendar for next summer to think ahead for holiday gifts and place my order then.  I have vowed I will never go through this again!

I understand what you're going through, beadgirldee. The consequences of procrastinating, I guess. But somehow, I can never quite motivate myself to plan ahead more. I'm just hoping that everything in my order arrives. I'll be stuck if something is on back order. Yikes!

About Lindsay Haedt

I joined BeadStyle magazine in June 2005. At that time, I had never worked with beads before, but that changed very quickly. Now, my favorite afternoons at work are the ones I spend working on projects. It always amazes me how relaxing (and fun!) it is to make jewelry. In addition to working on articles, I also handle the administrative work and the BeadStyle forum.
