Beading and the holiday spirit

I was at World Market last week when I spotted this little paper lion ornament. When the cashier rang him up, she asked me if I noticed he had only one eye. I did. And while I usually look for good quality in the things I buy, I felt attached to this damaged creature. Who would take care of him? He'd have no chance, languishing on the shelves next to the intact, perfect ornaments. So I brought him home. Though I could have dotted on another eye with a Sharpie, I made him a beaded eye patch instead. That way Leo can have some holiday spirit, too, as he rests among stalks of lucky bamboo.

On a somewhat related note, have you embellished any ornaments? Are you selling your work at a fundraiser, wrapping gifts to benefit a local charity, or teaching kids to make jewelry? Or maybe, with all the demands of the season, beading is your respite and relaxation. That's good, too. Let us know how beading plays a role in your holiday festivities.

What would the holiday season be without gifts?  I find Christmas to be the perfect excuse to go bead shopping so I can make gifts for people.

This year, a lot of friends and family are having 2nd babies and my daughter and niece are old enough to appreciate getting jewelry too.

I just put in a big order for some sterling alphabet beads and a bunch of other goodies I would otherwise not be able to justify.  I will be making 2 grandmother's bracelets, 2 little girl name bracelets, a baby bracelet, and 3 mommy bracelets.  Some are Christmas gifts, others are new baby gifts and birthday gifts.  (I hope none of my gift recipients are reading this comment!)

    Cheers, and Happy Holidays

Alphabet bracelets sound like great gifts — very personal. Enjoy your holiday beading! Thanks,
