Accessories first

I am currently working on a necklace by Carol McKinney for the March issue of BeadStyle. Carol told me that her greatest compliment is when a client buys an outfit to match a piece of jewelry she has created. I think Carol may be on to something. As jewelry makers, I think it's safe to say that we all have made a necklace or earrings to go with a dress or a blouse, but what if we reverse that process.
In the past I have purchased shoes first and then an outfit to match, sort of as an after thought. So why not make a smashing necklace and then, if I feel the need, find clothing to match? What a novel idea, Carol. Thanks.

I've been purchasing my clothing to match my jewelry for the past couple of years. I wake up in the morning and decide which necklace to wear... then I decide what to wear with it.

Beading has made me more aware of my appearance.  I love the compliments I get on my jewelry,  and I've learned what highlights my creations best.
