Post-shopping spree confessions

Rings and Things was in town Wednesday for a wholesale show. I went to pick up some things for the magazine, for myself and for classes I'll be teaching at a local middle school and some Girl Scout meetings. I found out it's very dangerous to go shopping with three different reasons (rationalizations) to buy. I think the little picture of Bambi on my Visa card was actually weeping when I was finished.

I did pick up some great bargains for everybody and everything on my list. I'm especially excited about the large-hole labradorite rondelles I found. I loooove labradorite and I'm getting into more stringing on silk ribbon. I had never seen large-holed labradorite beads, so this was a fantastic find. I think my future students will be jazzed about the sparklies I bought for them, too. Once they get a taste of how fun and easy stringing is, I know they'll be beaders for life.

Speaking of jazzed, yesterday also marked the arrival of the advance issues of the November issue of BeadStyle. Our "blue issue" looks great, I can't wait for you to see it.

As a really new beader since June 2007, I found that I am completed obsessed with beads.  In a few short months I have purchased over 30 books and 50 magazines--wow, who would have guessed that beading was such a hot hobby with so many awesome resources!  The local bead stores know me as the woman who taught herself bead weaving and see me at least once a week (ok, I must admit to shopping at least twice a week).  And, yes, I have spent an embarassing amount of money to ensure that I have all the pretty little baubles my heart desires.

Like many other beaders, I enjoy the total immersion of bead shopping, bead planning, and bead creating.  I have yet to attend a bead show but look forward to some in the near future (budget be darned!).

Do all new beaders give away almost all of their new creations?

My favorite approach is bead weaving bracelets but I look forward to beaded flowers, ornaments (can you say Christmas season is almost here?), beaded beads (what a concept), bead crochet....  Need I say more.

When I first started — and even now — I found I ended up giving away everything I made. The only reason I have more examples of my wirk around today is that they technically belong to the magazine and I'm not allowed to give them away!
