Turquoise design dilemma

This weekend I bought a strand of turquoise from Planet Bead. I loved the organic-looking slices, so this was a must-have. Now I'm pondering the design. I prefer the simplest of designs, so I'm tempted to string silver Charlottes between each piece, or maybe between groupings of slices. Or, I could try 2mm bicone crystals. Or knotting. I'm having trouble cutting the strand apart because I wonder whether my design can be as beautiful as the strand itself. Do you ever find yourself in that situation? I'm not sure if it's design paralysis or just an appreciation of a strand. This has also happened on occasion with individual beads. I have one green amethyst nugget left over from a bracelet I made, and I haven't been able to incorporate it into jewelry yet. Sometimes I just look at it. Anyway, I'll let you know how the necklace turns out.

They are quite lovely.  I would definitely keep it simple, but I might turn some of the larger slices flat, and weave them in flat between groups of the smaller slices with strands of silver/clear (whatever spacer color you are using).  It would make an interesting contrast, and show off the pieces from a different perspective.

If you are interested in adding some color I would try adding red coral pieces in between groupings of slices.  Just a thought.

Don't feel bad. I have lots of beads that I like to look at and run my fingers through. One of the bulletin boards I belong to has in it's tag line "and yes, sometimes we even make things with the beads." I find that most of the times the beads do the work, I am just the channel. It will come to you.

I tend to agree with you though. They look pretty just the way they are. Maybe use a couple of focals and leave them as they are? Such as, add a pendant. Or put a couple of bali silver clasps or beads on the ends. Or two on each side near the middle so they will show. Just a thought.

I enjoy simplicity as well and I think that your idea of  Charlottes between groupings is a very good one. I don't know how you feel about gold, but I do believe that it compliments turquoise beautifully. In looking at the slices and their shapes in the photo, it brings to mind these awesome vermeil wavy disc spacers that I found recently when I was shopping online for Thai silver.  They had a sort of brushed texture that would add a bit of interest to the design. Love the beads, but I'm always afraid once I pull out the string they are on I will mess them up and they will get out of order.  Good luck with those.  For those extra beads that you don't know what to do with, I just put a head pin in them and add them on a leather cord.  Very simple and you can have one that goes with any outfit.

I would go with the red and silver. It would bring out the colors that much more. Try a 8 or 10mm filigre silver bead between groups of the slices then add the red. It would be smashing..

I bought a similar strand at a bead show in Chicago this weekend and have the same dilemma!  I don't want to cut the strand and not be able to get them in their nice graduated order again...

Charwen's idea was unique and Ashton - I love that combo too.

I did make a turquiose and gold necklace Sunday night, with a gold focal, so I think for THESE I may re-string with a tribal-style Bali clasp and let the stones shine alone on the rest of the strand.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions. I like how your ideas are simple but dynamic; I'm hoping to stay true to the original presentation of the strand. Although... I cut one end of the strand, didn't start anything, and then taped it. About 2 inches of it fell off in the ziploc... oosh!
