This is my very first leap onto the blogging bandwagon. I guess I’m a bit anxious about entering this uncharted terrain, but I am looking forward to scribbling daily musings. Speaking of musings, I believe I met my muse last weekend. I was at the East Side Open Market, a farmer’s and artist’s market, in Milwaukee.
A necklace of mine caught the eye of a passerby.
She told me she had some old jewelry that I could use for parts. She went home, and brought back for me, a handful of beautiful, broken vintage pieces, including some amber chips that she had plucked from the Baltic coast. I was so thrilled with these treasures. We bartered and I am working on a special necklace incorporating one of the pieces she gave me, so that I may give it to her the next time I see her.
I just completed some remembrance jewelry for Make It Mine, a special Kalmbach publication that’s coming out in November. I intend to use the remaining treasures in several more pieces in remembrance of my muse. I am encouraged that she saw something in my jewelry, or possibly in me, that convinced her to bestow her old jewelry to me.
Till next time,
Jane Konkel
